Lions Quest parent meeting at Glide Elementary School a great success!
The Oregon Lions District 36-E leadership turned out in force on Thursday evening, February 7, 2008 to prepare chili dogs and chips for nearly 200 parents and children at Glide Elementary School. District Governor Lion Charles La Tourrette and his wife, Lion Margie of the Grants Pass Redwood Lions Club responded to the call for support from Past District Governor Lion Chuck Johnson, Myrtle Creek Lions Club, and project administrator of the LCIF Core 4 Lions Quest Expansion Grant at Glide School District in rural Douglas County, Oregon.
Vice District Governor Lion John Schock and his wife, Lion Areta Schock of the Brookings-Harbor Lions Club traveled the furthest distance to join Past District Governor Lion Don Ivie, Roseburg Lions Club, and fellow/lady Roseburg Lions Richard and Carol Legg, Dianna and Sid Toleno, Dale Thomas, Frank Killough and John Hernstedt. From the Sutherlin Lions Club, Past District Governor Lion Richard Smith provided his educator’s wisdom and advice on how to efficiently feed elementary school children and their parents in the most efficient manner.
Principal Jerry Halter and his Lions Quest teachers shared their knowledge and skills on the implementation of Lions Quest Skills for Growing and Skills for Adolescence with the parents in the school classrooms, while the grades K-6 students were entertained in the gymnasium with a video. Child care was provided by Glide Elementary School staff members.
District Governor Lion Charles LaTourrette and Past District Governor Lion Chuck Johnson highlighted the many Lions Clubs International programs, including Leo Clubs, Peace Poster Contests, Young Ambassador Awards, Eyeglass Recycling, Mobile Health Screening Unit services for schools and communities, and service-learning opportunities for children and community members.
